Victor Bongo

Victor Bongo is a talented African-Canadian chef who gained his reputation by challenging culinary traditions and incorporating ethnic flavours into his dishes. His first book, The Excellence of Chef Victor Bongo, was published in 2009. Chef Bongo is a member of the Canadian Culinary Federation (CCFC) and the World Association of Chefs’ Societies.  

Chef Bongo launched his culinary career in Vancouver kitchens, including the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel, the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, Bacchus Restaurant in the Wedgewood Hotel and aboard Holland America Cruise Lines. A milestone came with his selection as Executive Chef at The Raven Hotel in Haines Junction,Yukon; under his leadership, the restaurant has been rated as one of the best by Where to Eat in Canada (Oberon Press).

Chef Bongo’s adventurous menu landed him “Chef of the Year” recognition in the Yukon Territories four years in a row (2008-2011) as well as a 2008 Gold Medal from the CCFC. In 2010, he was nominated to the “Top Ten Best Chefs” by the Canadian Chefs’ Congress.


the Kitchen

Beyond his accomplishments in the kitchen, Chef Bongo is dedicated to creating positive change in the community, both in Canada and in Africa. He has served as Vice President of Chaîne de la Solidarité Nord-Sud, a Brussels-based not-for-profit organization providing assistance to people in developing countries around the world. On another front, he serves on the Advisory Board of the Super Chefs of the Universe, a children’s program that teaches healthy eating habits. Chef Bongo also maintains a strong personal connection to his homeland, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, funding an orphanage he founded there in 2009.
